For many years, we were successful dairy farmers and Holstein breeders so it was a natural transition for us to use our years of experience to raise natural grass-fed, grass-finished steers for your table. We have been raising grass-fed beef in Vermont since 1989.
Throughout our farming history, starting in 1973, Snug Valley Farm had always raised pigs for family and friends. Adding pork to our retail offerings started in a small way over 10 years ago, but we always sold out, much to the disappointment of our friends and customers. Snug Valley Farm expanded our pasture grown heritage breed pork offerings to meet the growing demands of retail, farmers’ markets, restaurants and wholesale customers.
Snug Valley Farm is committed to providing humane and natural care for our animals, raising them without hormones, stimulants and never feeding animal by-products. Our beef and pigs are raised in an atmosphere of kindness, love and respect.
Being good stewards of the land and the environment is part of our philosophy. We ensure the health of our land with intense rotational grazing to produce the best forage possible. Seeking the most nutritious soil, composting Snug Valley’s manure is a given. We have also embraced wind and solar renewable energy. As of Fall 2018, Snug Valley Farm produces most of our electrical needs with wind and solar renewable energy!
Our dedication to supporting family businesses is also key to our success. Hence, Snug Valley Farm uses family-run farms for sourcing animals, local farm supply stores, graphic designers, printers and hardware stores. This helps keep the Northeast Kingdom a vibrant and growing farming community.
